“Prayer and fasting for LIFE for Lent.”
During Lent St. Matthew and other parishes and churches will again hold a 40 day prayer and fasting vigil at the Planned Parenthood abortion facility at 515 Newtown Rd. The daily vigil will begin on Ash Wednesday and will continue through Palm Sunday, with peaceful prayer vigil at the site every day from 7:00am to 7:00pm in support of the unborn. St. Matthew is committed to praying at the site on Thursdays of Lent from 12noon to 1pm . At the site, one can pray the rosary, sing a hymn, hold a sign, or just pray quietly. Our Lady of Guadalupe Respect Life Rosary, Sunday, December 11, 2011
In honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12), Patroness of the Unborn, St. Matthew Parish will join other parishes in bringing an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe to an abortion site and saying the Rosary for Life there. St. Matthew will pray in front of Hillcrest abortion facility, 1600 E. Little Creek Road, Norfolk, 23518,from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m, Sunday, December 11.
In honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish groups will gather for a family fiesta from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Martínez home in Norfolk.

Sister Terese Auer, O.P., Ph.D. will offer a series of lectures on the sanctity of human life and the Dignity of the Human Person at various parishes in the Tidewater, Virginia area August 16-21, 2011. Sister Terese is a member of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia Congregation, Nashville, Tennessee. She received her Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in philosophy from the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. She has taught at the high school and college levels for the past 30 years. Sister Terese is currently in charge of the bioethics department at the Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries, Virginia. Sister Terese is author of the books, The Human Person: Dignity Beyond Compare and Called to Happiness: Guiding Ethical Principles. The lecture series is being organized by the St. Gianna Molla Respect Life Committee of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. All events are free and open to the public.
