Minutes for the Parish Council Meeting
Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Nilo Sanchez.
Father Joseph opened with prayer. The following council members were in attendance: Father Joseph, Nilo Sanchez, Ed Capone, Peter French, Arnel Rodriquez, Mike Pasileo, John Manalili, Cyn Romero, Sue Thomas, Roy Bruner, and Vicki Baxter.

The July 10, 2007, minutes were reviewed and approved.

Old Business:

Nilo reported that Marc is still investigating the placement of a new
St. Matthew’s Church sign at the corner of Indian River and Sandra Lane.

Marc has not appointed PC member committees as of yet.

Vicki reported that she had contacted 7 local parishes to inquire as to how they publish their PC minutes to the parish community. Five of the seven parishes post one copy in their commons area of the church.
After discussion, it was decided that our PC minutes will be posted on the web site, one copy posted somewhere in the commons area and a number of copies being available in our literature stand. The agenda for each meeting will also be posted on the website.

The Walk By Faith sub-committee findings were discussed:

- Father reported that we now have an additional part time DRE,
Danielle Brewer, who will begin Sept. 16th.
-Ed will investigate the purchase of hearing devices.
-We now have 38 altar servers but could still use a few more.
-Sue suggested that we investigate the possibility of having a
children’s liturgy during the homily. Parents in the 9:00am and
11:45a.m. Masses will be polled. Danielle will be given this task to
organize.
-Vicki will contact other parishes in our area to inquire about
Peace and Justice positions and exactly what the position entails.
-Father would like to see more adolescents from our local high
schools involved in our Youth Ministry group.

New Business:

Doug Johnson, Knights of Columbus spoke to the group about the placement of a tombstone to the unborn on church property. The stone would be placed in front of the grotto. It would be approx. 36 inches tall on side and 2 ft. tall on the front. There would be no cost to the church. Doug provided a drawing of a similar monument. The Knights have approved the first reading to provide the funding. A second reading will be done on 9-13-07. Pete French made a motion to approve the plan. Cyn Romero seconded the motion. A vote was taken and approved.

Vicki reported that RCIA is to begin on Sunday, Oct. 7th, @ 10:30 a.m.
We have three people at this time interested in attending. Deacon Cris
has the program details and will call a meeting with Deacon Bill, Deacon Darrell and Vicki to discuss the teaching of classes.

Fall Events and Car Raffle will be discussed at next meeting when Deacon
Cris is in attendance. Charles Barker has agreed to provide the car.

Cyn reported on the Journey to Wellness, with Bishop DiLorenzo on
Sunday, Sept. 30th @ 3:00 p.m. An insert will appear in the bulletin on the event.

Sue shared information from the diocese Called to Serve booklet
concerning the need for council members to receive council minutes and agenda before meetings. All were in agreement for this to occur beginning with the November 2007, meeting. Vicki will email the minutes and agenda to members. Sue provided a handout on the selection process for new pastoral council members. It was discussed and a selection committee was formed. (Arnel Rodriquez, Cyn Romero, Cathy Drake, John Manalili and Vicki Baxter).

Vicki reported on the low turn out of new parishioners for the Knights of
Columbus Welcome Breakfast. Suggestions were given by council members. A few of the suggestions will be tried.

Vicki reported that the Ministries Fair and Potluck has been scheduled for
Oct. 6th, after the 5:30 p.m. Mass and will continue through Sunday Masses.

Father Joseph reported on the plans for St. Matthew’s Feast Day on
Sept. 23rd. He thanked Marc Espitia for being the chairperson for this event.

Father Joseph rescheduled the Assembly Hall and Stewardship meeting
due to the St. Matthew’s evening novena’s. The Assembly Hall Renovation meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 9th @ 7:00 p.m. in the AH. The Stewardship meeting will be Oct. 11th @ 7:00 p.m. in the PC.

Father reported that we will have a visiting priest here from
Cross International who will do Masses on Oct. 13th and 14th.

Father Joseph will keep the ownership of his current vehicle.

Father Joseph reported that St. Matthew’s Parish has committed $100,000.00, to the current school construction project. One of the parish CD’s matures in February 2008, and this will be used.

Other Matters:

Arnel asked about the parish and school audit. Father indicated
that the diocese had not made contact about a date. It was brought up about selecting several people from the parish community who have business/accounting experience to do a periodic internal audit. Several names were given.

Ed had questions about parish CD’s and these questions were answered.

Roy wanted to know if we have a maintenance contract with someone to do parish and office maintenance. Vicki will check with Linda, secretary and report at next meeting.

Arnel requested that envelopes be provided at Masses on Sept. 15th and 22nd for anyone who wishes to make a donation to Father Connelly for his work in Africa providing children with school supplies. The council agreed. Arnel will inform the parishioners at the Masses.

Adjournment: Nilo

Next Meeting: November 13, 2007, Tuesday @ 7:00 p.m.

Closing Prayer: Father Joseph

Respectfully Submitted,
